My name is Marieke Klijnstra and I study Religious Studies. In the past years, I have had the honor of gaining experience in different aspects of student life such as in study and sports associations, and in my year as a faculty-assessor. I saw not just the importance of developing yourself in extracurricular activities, but I also got to value the strength of the international and intercultural image of the UG, and the relevance of raising the student’s opinion and perspective in decision-making processes. This because we are the ones that are experiencing the consequences.
Next year, I want to strive for more inclusion of all students in the lively city of Groningen. One of the proposals we will make in the university council is more facilitation of free Dutch and English courses, because we believe that closing the language gap is a great first step for a more inclusive academic environment. I will furthermore fight for more opportunities to become an active student, better internationalisation, and more sustainability.
